Extensiones de tape: a bilingual glossary

Extensiones de tape are tape-in extensions. The working vocabulary differs enough between Spanish and English that a bilingual stylist reading an English product page can lose the specifics, so this page maps the terms that matter onto each other.

This site is written in English

We haven't published Spanish-language pages, and this one is a terminology bridge rather than a translation. If you want the product documentation in Spanish, tell us and we will know there's demand for it. Get in touch

A large number of stylists working with tape-ins are reading English product documentation as a second language, and the terms in this category are specific enough that a rough translation loses the detail that matters.

Sandwich, tab and move-up in particular don't map cleanly, and getting them wrong changes what you order.

The terms that matter

EspañolEnglishWhat it means in practice
Extensiones de tape / de cintaTape-in extensionsWefts held by double-sided adhesive tabs
Cinta / adhesivoTape / adhesiveThe adhesive itself, not the hair
TabTabOne adhesive rectangle. Sixty per pack
SándwichSandwichTwo tabs around a section of natural hair. Sixty tabs is thirty sandwiches
Cortina / mechónWeftThe hair piece
Retoque / mantenimientoMove-upThe appointment every six to eight weeks
Remover / removedorRemoverThe solvent that releases the bond
Tiempo de acciónDwell timeHow long the solvent sits before the bond releases
Peine de colaRattail combThe fine-pointed comb used to open a sandwich
CrecimientoGrow-outHow far the bond has travelled down the shaft

The two that cause ordering mistakes

Tab against sandwich is the first. Our pack is 60 tabs, which installs 30 sandwiches. A supplier quoting 60 sandwiches is quoting double, and the two numbers get used interchangeably in both languages.

The second is double-sided against single-sided, cinta de doble cara against cinta de una cara. Only the double-sided kind attaches hair to a head. Single-face tape is for weft repair, and buying it for an install wastes a pack and an appointment.

What we sell, in plain terms

  • Tabs: 60 pre-cut double-sided adhesive rectangles, 30 sandwiches, $45.
  • Remover: a 4.0 oz alcohol-based solvent, about 30 removals, $25.
  • Removal Kit: the remover, 60 tabs, an application tool and instructions.
  • Complete System: the same, plus a step-by-step digital guide by email, $95.
  • No hair. We do not sell wefts, in any language.

The compatibility point, stated carefully

This is the claim most often mistranslated in this category, so here it's precisely. The remover works with our tape. It doesn't work equally well on other brands' adhesive. What you can do with any brand is re-tape their double-sided wefts with our tabs, which has been tested with Bellami, Hairtalk and Babe.

The limits of this page

It is a glossary written by an English-language brand, not a translation, and this site has no Spanish-language version. We would rather say that than present a half-localised page as though it were one.

Product documentation, the digital guide and support are all in English. Support runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Mountain Time.

If Spanish documentation would make a real difference to you, telling us is the thing that makes it likely to happen.

What we sell for this

Close to this question

  • Hair extension tape tabs. A vocabulary page: the terms used behind the chair, and the counting-unit trap in pack comparisons.
  • Single-sided hair extension tape. A diagnostic for buyers who have searched the wrong product name, resolving the confusion in two questions.
  • Tape for extensions. The head-term explainer: how tab packs are counted and specified, and why hold and release are a single decision.
  • Tape-in extension removal kit. Argues why a removal kit must include tabs, because a move-up is a removal plus a reinstall.

Questions we get asked

Qué son las extensiones de tape?

Tape-in extensions: wefts held in place by double-sided adhesive tabs, with a section of natural hair sandwiched between two of them.

How many tabs are in a pack?

Sixty tabs, which installs thirty sandwiches. A supplier quoting in sandwiches is using the other unit, so check before comparing prices.

Do you have a Spanish version of the site?

Not currently. This page maps the vocabulary between the two languages, but the product documentation and support are in English.

Does the remover work with any brand of tape?

It works best with ours, because the two were developed together. You can re-tape another brand's double-sided wefts with our tabs, which has been tested with Bellami, Hairtalk and Babe.
