A removal kit isn't just a bottle. A move-up removes the wefts, re-tabs them and puts them back in, so the kit needs the solvent, fresh tabs and something to press them with. A remover on its own gets you a third of the way through the appointment.
The word removal makes this sound like a single action, and for a full take-out it is. For everyone else, removal is the first third of a move-up, and the appointment does not end when the wefts are off.
That is why our removal kit has tabs in it, which surprises people often enough to be worth explaining.
The two different jobs
| Full take-out | Move-up | |
|---|---|---|
| Why | The extensions are coming out for good | Grow-out, every 6 to 8 weeks |
| Needs solvent | Yes | Yes |
| Needs fresh tabs | No | Yes, one to two packs |
| Needs a way to press tabs | No | Yes |
| Ends with | Natural hair, clean | The same wefts back in, higher up |
If you are in the first column, a bottle on its own is the right purchase and a kit is more than you need. Almost everyone is in the second column, seven or eight times a year.
What is in the kit
- The Clean Remover, 4.0 oz, which does roughly 30 removals.
- 60 tabs, which re-tabs 30 sandwiches.
- An application tool, because pressure is what forms a pressure-sensitive bond and a thumb is not enough of it.
- Quick-start instructions in the box.
The Complete System is the same contents plus a step-by-step digital guide sent by email after the order. That guide is the only difference between the two, and it is aimed at at-home installers and stylists new to tape-ins.
Working through a move-up with it
- RemoveMist both faces of each sandwich, wait, guide a rattail between the tabs. Under 60 seconds a tab.
- Check the strandOil-free means clean and dry, so the next step happens now rather than after a wash.
- Clean the weft trackOld adhesive off, so a fresh tab has something flat to bond to.
- Re-tabNew tabs on the cleaned wefts. This is what the 60 tabs in the box are for.
- PressFull area, firm, with the tool. The step that is easiest to under-do.
- Reinstall higherNew sections nearer the root, staggered against the row below.
When the kit is the wrong purchase
If the extensions are coming out for good, you do not need the tabs and the bottle on its own is cheaper.
If you have a full head with high density, one kit's 60 tabs is 30 sandwiches and may not re-tab everything. Check your count before ordering.
The kit contains no hair. If a weft is finished rather than needing a new tab, that is a different supplier.
And the tabs and remover in it are matched to each other. On another brand's adhesive still in the hair, expect the removal half to behave less predictably.
What we sell for this
Close to this question
- Tape-in extension starter kit. Sets expectations for a first-time buyer, including everything a kit structurally cannot provide.
- Tape-in extension refill. Works out reorder intervals for each consumable so someone can plan rather than run out mid-appointment.
- Tape-in extension tools. Tool-by-tool breakdown, arguing that pressure application is the one tape-specific tool.
- Hair extension move-up cost. Breaks down the recurring move-up appointment by time, and what shortens or lengthens it.
- Move-up refill: tabs and remover. Compares the three purchase routes for the tabs-plus-remover combination and names the deciding question.
Questions we get asked
Why does a removal kit include tape?
Because a move-up is a removal followed by a reinstall. The wefts come out, get fresh tabs, and go back in. A solvent alone stops a third of the way through.
How many sandwiches will the kit re-tab?
Thirty, from the 60 tabs in the box. A high-density head may need a second pack of tabs alongside it.
What is the difference between the kit and the Complete System?
A step-by-step digital guide, sent by email after the order. The physical contents are the same.
Can I buy just the remover?
Yes. It is $25 for a 4.0 oz bottle, which does about 30 removals. That is the right purchase if nothing is going back in.
