From the chair

Tape-in extensions, professional

The difference between a professional and a home install isn't the products. It is colour matching, sectioning discipline, honest weight assessment and the cut. Those four are what make an install read as hair, and none of them comes in a box.

This page is for the person doing this for a living, so it skips the reassurance and goes to the two things that actually matter behind a chair: what separates professional work, and what decides whether a move-up runs to time.

Jaci has been doing tape-ins for twenty-one years and the products on this site came out of that, so the bias here is toward turnaround rather than toward novelty.

The four that aren't products

  • Colour matching. The single hardest judgement, and the one that decides whether anyone can tell.
  • Sectioning discipline. Thin, even sections every time, including the fortieth one when you're tired.
  • Honest weight assessment. Being willing to tell a client their hair will not carry what they are asking for.
  • Cutting in. An uncut install reads as extensions from across a room.

Every one of those is training and judgement. A kit can make them easier to execute. It cannot supply them, and any brand implying otherwise is selling to the wrong person.

The turnaround argument

The commercial case for an oil-free solvent is capacity. An oil-based remover leaves a film, the hair needs clarifying before fresh tape goes on, and that is roughly twenty to thirty minutes inside every move-up appointment.

Per move-upOil-freeOil-based
RemovalUnder 60 seconds a tabSlower, gentler
Clarifying washNoneWash, rinse, dry
Re-tabImmediatelyAfter the hair is dry
Added timeNoneRoughly 20 to 30 minutes

Multiply that by the move-ups in a week and it is the difference between fitting another client in and not. That is the entire product argument, and it is a scheduling argument rather than a chemistry one.

Where we would not recommend ours

If your clientele includes people with sensitive or reactive scalps, an oil-based remover is more comfortable and you should keep one at the station. Big Kizzy is the name most clients recognise and it's gentler.

If you're removing another brand's adhesive from a head you didn't install, ours is matched to our tape and will be less predictable. The re-tape route is the fix: strip their tape, re-tab with ours, and the next removal behaves.

The stylist discount

Around 20 percent on proof of a current licence. No tiers, no minimums and no trade account, because the catalogue is four products and a tier table would be theatre.

What a professional should know before switching

Our remover is alcohol-based and flammable. In a salon with irons running that is a real handling constraint, not a label.

There is no published safety data sheet yet. For a professional that is a fair thing to want and we do not have it.

The performance figures here come from ten years of daily use in one salon. That is practitioner experience, not controlled testing, and you should weigh it as such.

And the guarantee applies when the tape and remover are used together as a system. It does not cover our remover against another brand's adhesive.

Questions we get asked

What makes a professional install different?

Colour matching, sectioning discipline, honest weight assessment and the cut. The products are the same ones anyone can buy.

Is there a stylist discount?

Around 20 percent on proof of a current cosmetology licence. No tiers, no minimums, no trade accounts.

Why would a salon switch removers?

Turnaround. An oil-free solvent means no clarifying wash before re-tabbing, which is roughly twenty to thirty minutes back in every move-up.

Will it work on adhesive I did not install?

Less predictably. It is matched to our tape. The durable fix is to re-tab with ours so the next removal is a known quantity.
